Watches > California Dials

All California dial watches have a mix of Roman numerals (I, II, X and XI) for the top half of the hour markers and Arabic numbers (4, 5, 7 and 8) for the bottom half of the hour markers. The major indices at 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock and 9 o'clock will typically have a shape instead of a number, which may vary in different designs.

California dials first became popular in the 1930s, including offerings from Rolex and Panerai, and there is a very interesting history of the California dial and why it became so popular.
