Why We Love This Watch
A Robust Field Watch
We think this one ticks all of the boxes with a scratch resistant sapphire crystal including 6 layers of anti-reflective coating, a scratch resistant case surface hardened to 1200 Vickers, 100 meters of water resistance and a screw-down crown, as you'd find in many dive watches, strong Swiss Super-LumiNova lume, and the incredibly reliable 9015 high beat automatic mechanical movement, which comes with the Parashock shock protection system and a 42 hour power reserve.
A Stylish Pilot Watch
A modern take on pilot watches, it's great to see the traditional two dots and triangle at 12 o'clock and full 24 hour markings. Little touches abound here, such as the red accents on the triangle at 12 and outer track at 4, 8, and 12, which tie really nicely to the red triangle on the second hand and the red accent stitching on the black straps. This is also a sophisticated and thin design, coming in at under 10mm including the sapphire crystal. The silver-colored case is accented by polished chamfered sides both on top and below, to nicely bring out the sleek curved design, and the polished faceted applied indices are perfectly matched with the custom hand-set, which features diamond-cut faceted hands with lumed tips.
Sattelberg Commemoration
The Second Hour Sattelberg takes it's name from the battle of Sattelberg, where Australian and US forces captured the mountain top Sattelberg mission during the Second World War. During the action, Sergeant Tom Derrick was able to raise the Australian flag over the mission after multiple attempts to take the summit with severe hand-to-hand fighting, for which he was awarded the Victoria Cross. Rather than trying to glorify war, the engraved commemoration on the back of the watch simply lists the name, dates and location of the battle as a memorial to all who took part.
